It’s Gossip Cover January; Taylor Momsen Versus Blake Lively
So, January brings us the month of the Gossip Girls; specifically Blake Lively and Taylor Momsen.
I can appreciate the visual of Page Six; the tones of the photo suggest an appropriate visual for a January. The Vogue USA shoot with Lively seems like every other Marilyn Monroe inspired visual, with leafy green tones to set the mood in the background. For a January released issue, this seems a little ridiculous since most of the purchasing audience is located in a traditional winter setting.
Not only that, but for a young actress Blake was styled to (once again) look as if she were in her thirties. I get that she holds the image of old Hollywood glamor, but this girl is 21 for Christ’s sake. If your marketing tactics dictate you aim your magazine to the over-thirty crowd, pick another cover girl.
It seems Taylor’s cover was styled far more effectively for the month; what with the blue backdrop and ‘ice queen’ like makeup and jewelry effects. It figures that Page Six takes the win away from Vogue…one would think it would be the other way around.
