The Meaning Behind Elina Ivanova’s Tattoos
Elina Ivanova, who competed on Cycle 11 of America’s Next Top Model had several tattoos. These tattoos caused problems during her go-sees in Amsterdam, as a few of the designers refused to hire her because of them.

Elina modeled when she was younger, but took some time off. It was during this time she got several of her tattoos, as she thought she would not return to modeling. This changed when she auditioned for ANTM. However, Elina defended her tattoos in several post-ANTM interviews, citing they are a part of her and represented her personality and that there are several top models with tattoos. For the right model, tattoos can easily be covered with makeup.
Elina revealed the meaning of each of her tattoos on her MySpace:
Her inner forearm is a Russian phrase that is about “Finding something bigger that yourself, a person, or something materialistic. A significant purpose in life, then you will truly feel alive.”
Along her forearm is her grandmother’s full name.
Her stomach reads “a voice for those who can’t speak” and for Elina, this represents the animal liberation movement.
I really like that Elina’s tattoos are very personal and meaningful to her. However, I do understand and respect the designers who did not like them on their models. It’s simply a personal preference. It has the potential to affect Elina’s future career, however, there’s no reason she can’t be successful and find designers who hire models with tattoos.
